A surprising substitute, R410a comes in the field after when R12 has been declared in a Montreal protocol as the environment harming refrigerant. The mixture of HFC32 and HFC125 makes it a blend refrigerant which can operate at high pressure, is widely used in many unitary air conditions, chiller as well as commercial refrigerant.

It’s zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Layer) makes it a more eco-friendly and till an untouched refrigerant by EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). In a fight of saving the environment and proving rich quality refrigeration, R410a has a bright future in covering the huge market. The positive and more appreciating use of it is in smaller compact units. Unlike R22, its suction, as well as discharge pressure in the condensing unit, is higher whereas speaking of EER (Energy Efficiency Rate) it encourages itself 5-6% more than that of R12.

Properties:

  • Non-flammable and low toxic
  • Molecular Weight is 72.6 g/mol
  • Boiling Point is -51.4 °C
  • Critical Temperature is 71.34 °C
  • ODP (Ozone Depletion Layer) – 0
  • GWP (Global Warming Potential) – 1725
  • EER (Energy Efficiency Rate) – 5-6% that of R12
  • Color – Clear, colorless
  • Odor – Slight ethereal
  • Cylinder Color Code – Rose Colored Cylinder

There are firms working on alternatives of R410a with DR55, L20 and L41 reducing GWP at more extent while R134a has already been an alternative of R410a with its GWP only 50% of R410A. Future is now welcoming R410a as an upcoming market capturing refrigerant.
